We are committed to using natural
resources in a responsible manner :
1. through our use of energy, paper, plastic and all
other materials within our business operation
2. by recycling materials wherever it is practicable
In practical terms, we aim to:-
- reduce the quantity of
paper used
- use
recycled products where practicable
- use products from
renewable sources where possible
- use higher-energy
efficiency products where possible
- avoid wasted lighting, heating and cooling
- reduce
reliance on printing by relying more on sending and saving electronic
communications as digital files ("files")
- increase our use of electronic facilities
- increase
our recycling: e.g. plastics, toner cartridges, old computer monitors,
'towers' (or hard-drives) and keyboards etc
How
do
we implement the policy?
Wherever we
can, we submit empty toner cartridges and hardware to a designated charity.
We have replaced all cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors with lighter 'TFT flat screen' monitors which
radiate less glare and use less power.
At the close
of business, or end of each staff member's working time, the tower/hard-drive
and the monitor's power will be turned off. Each hard-drive uses 20-30 watts
when on stand-by.
We will
encourage where possible our cleaning contractors to use biodegradable solvents
and solutions when cleaning our premises.
We have
reduced our paper-flow and will continue to focus on reducing our use of paper
and ink:
-
We have adopted an electronic fax system with
incoming copies held electronically
-
Where possible we
will produce our own recycled notepads from disposed paper
-
We will re-use
sling holders, wallet folders and flimsies and other stationery items
wherever possible
-
We will send faxes electronically where
attachments are not required
-
Where faxes have to be sent as hard copy, they
are
printed on a fax-form not headed paper where possible.
We will
actively encourage staff to use any recycling facilities we provide.
